Windows Defender Detects Batch Scripts as “HackTool:BAT/AutoKMS”

HackTool:BAT/AutoKMS

After testing multiple Windows devices, I discovered that Microsoft has disabled the use of KMS scripts in the latest update.

There was no official reason or announcement; it was just a quiet event. I’m sure many of you were surprised, when you heard the news. Still, Microsoft’s move this time is pretty easy to understand.

KMS commands are developed by Microsoft, but batch scripts are not. They simply contain a collection of KMS commands and are written by individuals like me.

slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr /skms kms.msactivex.com
slmgr /ato

My goal in creating these scripts is to save time by running all the commands at once, instead of entering them one by one in the Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell. However, this method is not considered official, as Microsoft does not recommend running batch files with administrative rights. For instance, if someone added a disk-formatting command to the script, it could erase all your data.

So, I suggested using a straightforward one-line PowerShell script rather than a batch script.

Or you manually activate a Windows license using CMD (Command Prompt) and a KMS client key, also known as a Microsoft Generic Volume License Key (GVLK). Below is an example commands to activate Windows 11 Pro.

slmgr /ipk W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX
